Redemption Protocol

My first book Redemption Protocol should be published within the next month. The final edit has started. Exciting times! Only one problem.

I swore I'd never start a blog. I'm a lying hypocrite.

Sorry.

But I've been ill for a week now. No exercise for eight (count 'em) days. I think someone is sending me a message. And the message is 'start a blog, Mike'. Or it's the thing with the girl. One or the other.

I quit work, took some time out, climbed, skied, got bitten by a snake and my wayward yacht sank under me during a force nine gale. Oh, and I wrote a book.

Let's see what happens.

Bring me that horizon!

First, let me say, I purchased the complete series. I believe that in supporting independent authors and by purchasing their work I always feel that it gives them incentive to continue writing.

I like Mike Freeman's style of writing, I find it reminiscent of the late Jack Chalker. Mr. Freeman interjects enough hard science to offset what I call science babble in his explanation of the actions during this storytelling. I also feel he gives the reader their money's worth with only a few wasted pages of description. While there are places that could be written better and some misspellings, on the whole I find his books very entertaining.

If you are looking to escape into the world of space opera I highly recommend you give his books a try.

Now a mini rant: it is been nearly a year since 'Rapturous Pejoration'was published. His next book in the series 'Rabid Penitence' has been promised and we're still waiting. Mr. Freeman if you're reading this review could you please give us an update or a timeframe when this book would be released.

Once again, I find this series captivating and entertaining. Please support independent authors so they will continue their great work.

Great to hear you like the writing and enjoyed the series so far. I'm delighted to hear that you're looking forward to book 6. It takes me a year flat out to write a book like this at the best of times, but unfortunately you are right to say things are unusually delayed this time. I'm not sure if you've seen my last comment on the blog, but to quote from it:

'Unfortunately, and I sincerely apologize for this, book 6 is going to come out later than I’d planned, due to injuries/ operations and their subsequent rehabilitation, which has been more complex and prolonged than I or my medical staff foresaw (and meant that, for a long period, I couldn’t write - purgatory). That said, I still hope to beat George R. R. Martin to the punch!'

To elaborate on this at little (without going into the grim detail), I had some setbacks during my rehabilitation (which are now well on the path to full resolution) that left me, for a while, in continuous pain and unable to sit. These problems were apparently caused by maladaptions/ unconcious compensations I made during the wait to get the surgery. This led to the purgatory I mention in the quote above: wanting to work but being unable to do so.

I increasingly doubt book 6 will be out this year - sorry about that - I can't say for sure, but I won't publish it before it's ready. I have the story and the writing is coming along well - I feel like it's the best book yet - but there is lots to do and I want to publish something worthy of the series. I promise you I'm doing my best.

Thanks again for your feedback and your interest in the series; I say this often but it really is a tremendous boost to hear people are looking forward to the next book. It's on its way, I promise you; sorry it couldn't be sooner.

best
Mike

Hi Mike, glad to hear that your recovery is going well. Just wanted to say that I am really enjoying the series so far and I look forward to reading books six, but only when it's ready! Finished book five today, went straight to Amazon to get the next one and couldn't find it. Googled your name and it brought me here.

Keep up the good work and best wishes,

James

James!

Great to hear you're enjoying the series. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and let me know you've enjoyed the books thus far - it's inspiring, energizing and motivating when my readers drop in. If you have time to get a review on Amazon/ goodreads I'd be delighted and incredibly grateful, thanks, it really makes a difference to the profile of the series.

A friend sent me an article today about an author who spent five years writing a sequel (not my intention, I hastily add!); apparently at one point the author downloaded Write or Die, which deletes the manuscript if you don't produce enough new words. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he subsequently threw away the 35,000 words he'd written, saying it felt like having 'a gun to his head'. I don't have a gun, but having thrown away 70,000 words so far (just can't get the beginning the way I want it), I have an inkling how he feels!

Thanks again for supporting the series and dropping by and saying hello.

all the best
Mike

Mike,

I've enjoyed reading your series as it manages to combine real science with believable Fictional science. The characters are very interesting and come from opposite ends of the spectrum, giving a nice balance to a situation (although Havoc does get his way a lot ;-)). I'm looking forward to your next installment, but take your time to do it right. Too many books are published half finished. Good luck on your recovery!
